The Isle of Wight’s Utilita Energy Hub has celebrated raising vital funds for Ukraine via its Easter raffle in-store.
The raffle winner, John Checkley, went along to the hub to accept his Easter hamper prize, but made the humble gesture of donating the majority of items to families who can’t afford to treat their children this Easter.
The latest act of kindness comes after the Utilita Energy Hub donated £3,436 to the Island’s food bank to help members of the local community access the food and supplies they needed at Christmas.
The donation was part of a national initiative, whereby Utilita Energy donated a penny every time one of its 830,000 customers completed an online top-up between 14th November and 15th December. Each penny was added to a central fund, which was divided between each of Utilita’s nine Energy Hubs located across the UK.
A Utilita spokesperson said:
“The community’s kind response to our Energy Hub’s Easter raffle has raised £136 for the Disasters Emergency Fund – it has been really heart-warming. The winner, John Checkley, has been incredibly generous and has donated the majority of his prize to families who can’t afford Easter eggs. It feels good to be helping those far away, as well as those closeby.
“The raffle gave us an opportunity to educate locals on how to save as much as £332 on their energy spend, by making five free and simple changes to the way they use energy at home – the Energy High 5. So far we have educated more than 2,500 households, which has been really well received as the cost of living crisis deepens for millions of households.”
