NASH NETS FOUR AS NEWPORT RUN RIOT AT ALRESFORD
Ji Nash struck 4 times as Newport turned a goalless first half into a commanding 6-1 victory to boost their play-off push
Port made the trip across the water to face Alresford Town, knowing 3 points were essential in the race for the play-off places.
Manager Joe Butcher rotated his squad, with Mikey Thompsett, Keelan Walsh and George Holbrook dropping to the bench, while Matt Benford and Kudzi Mazambara were handed starts. Kai Grace also returned from injury.
Despite clear skies at kick-off, difficult underfoot conditions following a pre-match hailstorm made for a scrappy opening. The Magpies edged the first half without seriously testing Leon Pitman, while Newport’s best moments came through Mazambara, who impressed with his energy and work rate.

Half Time: Alresford Town 0-0 Newport
Whatever was said in the Newport dressing room at the break had the desired effect, as they emerged with far greater urgency.
Ji Nash broke the deadlock on 50 minutes (0-1), shifting the momentum firmly in Newport’s favour. Nash struck again on 60 minutes (0-2), before Jordan Browne added a 3rd just 3 minutes later (0-3) to reward his industrious display.
With the Magpies struggling to stem the tide, Nash completed his hat-trick on 66 minutes (0-4) and added his 4th of the afternoon on 71 minutes (0-5) as Newport took full control.
Substitute Mikey Thompsett rounded off the scoring on 75 minutes (0-6), arriving during a spell of sustained pressure from the visitors.
Alresford pulled a goal back on 84 minutes after a move down the left (1-6), but it proved only a consolation.
