Newport Minster’s funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund comes to a close at the end of this month (31st March), leaving a lasting legacy for the church.
Since reopening on 1st May 2024, the building has seen over 50,000 visitors, hosted 50 musical performances, indoor markets, a piece of award-winning theatre and even Island Echo’s election hustings, alongside community groups and activities and the ever-popular Minster Café.
A team of over 100 volunteers has been recruited over 3 years and helped to keep the building open to the public.
Hannah Griffiths, Community Engagement Coordinator, has said:
“It has been a joy to be part of this transformation”
“We feel like Newport Minster is firmly on the map and we will continue to welcome visitors to this beautiful space. Thank you to everyone who has been involved in this journey.
Revd Chris Bradish has said:
“We felt it was right to have a celebration to recognise all the hard work that has gone into the last three years.
“We are looking forward to the next phase, we hope you will all join us on this new adventure.”
The Minster is open to visitors Tuesday – Saturday and holds 2 Sunday services 11:00 Holy Communion and 18:30 Worship and Prayer. All are welcome.

Please could we go back to calling it St Thomas Church especially as it is in St Thomas Square.
The Church of England has not conferred any official status on it.
Lets go back to prior 2008 when on a whim of a bishop he decided to change the name which was okay for the previous hundreds of years.
