A new 5-surgery dental practice is set to open in Ryde, providing NHS dental services for up to 7,000 patients on the Isle of Wight.
County Hall has granted planning consent to the Harunani & Co Group of Dentists to convert the ground floor of 51 and 52 High Street into a new NHS clinic. The practice will employ five dentists, five dental nurses, two reception staff and one manager.
Earlier this year, the council also approved plans for another ten-surgery NHS dental practice at 7 – 8 High Street from Damira Dental.
The approved proposal by Harunani & Co (25/00741/FUL) includes changing the use of the first and second floors of no. 52, which currently house duplex flats. The ground floor, previously home to a massage parlour and wellbeing clinic, has been vacant.
A statement submitted by Andrew White Planning Consultancy on behalf of the applicant said the new practice responds to a contract awarded by NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board to address a shortage of NHS dental provision on the Isle of Wight.
The Harunani Group has previously set up 18 dental practices across the UK in areas with significant need.
Planners have said the new clinic will significantly improve access to NHS dentistry, helping to meet some of the unmet demand, including dental implants, and supporting the health and wellbeing of local residents.
The planning decision report stated the development would not only improve public service infrastructure but also boost the vitality and viability of Ryde’s town centre.
