The Environment Agency has issued a fresh flood alert for the Isle of Wight – this time for the coast.
Islanders are being urged to monitor local water levels and weather conditions as it is expected that there will be some element of coastal flooding in the coming hours and days.
More rainfall is expected overnight into Friday and again at the weekend. This will coincide with higher than normal tides.
River and/or tidal levels have triggered tonight’s alert, but due to industrial action more specific information is unavailable.
A more serious flood warning remains in force for the Eastern Yar between Wroxall and Sandown, with a flood alert in place for the rest of the Eastern Yar.
Warnings in force for Lukely Brook, Monktonmead Brook and Gurnard Luck have all been stood down.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 04:57 – The flood warning for the Eastern Yar has now been extended to include the section of river between Sandown and Bembridge. This was previously under a flood alert.

Isn’t it amazing there is “industrial action” at the exact moment of expected floods, where is sausage Bob on this, quiet as usual, these strikers should be working NOW, if they want to strike do it when there isn’t this kind of problem. People could get injured or worse because of them.
It is not the fault of those striking – they have every right to stop working, if they feel that the conditions or circumstances of their employment have deteriorated to such a point, that they are left with no alternative. Saying that they should be working because people could get injured, is a pathetic attempt at guilt tripping them. They are not slaves that must work no matter what.
start looking at those running the organisation and ask why are they on strike.
people also know flooding may take place – it is time they took responsibility for their own welfare and safety, by planning ahead, instead of simply depending on others.
Suppose they have been told to go to work one day a week.
Most useless ar@eholes are still W.F.H
Not saying I agree with strikes but I thought the point of strike action was to cause as much disruption as possible. Just saying!
Islanders are being urged to monitor the local water levels.says the E.A. YOU monitor the flood water levels like we are paying you to do.
