Easter weekend saw over 200 competitors and nearly 40 boats taking part in the RORC Easter Regatta.
Based in Cowes and sailed in Solent waters this popular regatta is the first of the season for RORC boats.
Billed as a Training Regatta, Good Friday featured an hour of practice starts followed by Race One for all classes. Out on the water, the RORC Coaching Team led by Mason King and the North Sails RIB with Neil Mackley on board, kept a watchful eye on all of the boats. Advice was on offer as well as filming the boat set up and manoeuvres.
The RORC Cowes Clubhouse was packed with sailors after the debrief and a Crew Buffet was served with Good Friday being Curry Night.
Easter Saturday and the RORC Easter Challenge, supported by North Sails, featured three races for all IRC Classes. With building pressure during the day, the fleet enjoyed exhilarating racing in the Solent. The RORC Race Team produced a variety of courses including technical windward/leeward, round the cans races and the rarity of reaching starts.
Now, after Friday’s race and the 3 raced on Saturday certain boat crews were working together and boats in the different classes were doing well.
3 more races took place on Easter Sunday in near perfect sailing conditions. Easter Egg prizes and trophies were presented by RORC Commodore James Neville at the Cowes Clubhouse.
Overall winners were:
- IRC 1- Dark ‘N’ Stormy,
- Cape 31. Jariffe,
- IRC 2-Oui,
- IRC 3- Diablo,
- IRC4- Jukebox (John Smart).
