31 bands and over 100 musicians performed at Music for Ukraine at Quay Arts over 2 successive Sundays, ending on 3rd April.
The event, organised by Jim Thorn, has raised over £5,000 for MAD-Aid, the local charity who have so far delivered 10 truckloads of donations and supplies to Ukraine, Moldova and surrounding countries.
The musical acts on ranged from folk and traditional jazz, to gypsy, modern and latin jazz, soul, and blues, and afrobeat. A large audience attended every musical spot upstairs and downstairs. The collections were boosted by kind donations from several local businesses, artists and organisations, and a prize draw took place.
Jim said:
“MAD-aid and myself were thrilled with the amount donated, but perhaps more importantly, hundreds more local people now know about MAD-aid and the work they do. The attendances on both days were excellent, and the support we have had from local musicians and businesses has been incredible. The idea of Music for Ukraine came to me about four weeks ago, and it was a great effort by everyone to pull something together so quickly”.

Not sure what MAD stands for, but it is a great idea to raise money to help Ukranian refugees. I’m sure we all feel that ‘If only there was something we could do’ to help those suffering from such horrendous aggression..
-Hang on a minute, we use 18% of diesel fuel from Russia, 3% of gas, less of other fuels – so it would’nt take much of a sacrifice to cut off all supplies from that agressive regime. So individually we CAN do something afterall…whilst saving ourselves some money too !
As for me, I’m walking much more, cycling too, as my car takes a break..getting fitter at the same time..wearing more at home, heating only on occasionally.
