Firefighters from East Cowes and Newport are tackling a house fire at Osborne Heights in East Cowes this afternoon (Thursday).
2 appliances and a tactical advisor are on scene having been mobilised to the end-of-terrace property at around 15:30.
Breathing apparatus and hose reel jets are being utilised, with a safety jet standing by.
It’s been confirmed that the fire began on the ground floor, but damage appears to have spread throughout the property.
UPDATE @ 16:20 – The fire has been extinguished and positive pressure ventilation is being used to rid smoke from the property.
Investigations are now underway to determine the cause of the fire.
UPDATE @ 16:57 – It has been confirmed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service that smoke was issuing from the house upon arrival of fire crews shortly after 15:20, with the fire located in the ground-floor lounge.
4 sets of breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets and 1 safety jet have been used.
Community Safety Watch Manager, Aidy Wellock, has said:
“We cannot stress enough how vital having working smoke alarms in the home is and the difference it can make if a fire occurs. Smoke alarms provide an early warning of incidents and provide precious time to escape.
“Adequate working smoke detection should be fitted on every level of your home and should be tested regularly.
“We offer additional support to fit smoke alarms for those who are most vulnerable to fire via our Safe and Well visits.”
