A ‘much-needed’ dog-walking facility could open on agricultural land at a farm near Rookley.
Cridmore Farm Company has proposed a change of use of a field within its 870-acres southeast of Rookley to provide a secure area for exercising or training dogs.
The proposed use will involve private bookings and would be disability-friendly, according to a Planning Statement from Dicksons Planning and Development.
It says:
“The farm owner has identified a local need for this type of facility and believes a dog walking field set in the rural countryside will be a valuable addition to the dog walking community locally and to the Isle of Wight as a whole.
“The facility is likely to be particularly attractive to people who own reactive dogs that are not able to be let off the lead in a normal situation. Some dogs are too nervous, have no recall, are livestock worriers.
“The site will provide a completely safe enclosed space that can be rented by the hour so dogs can enjoy some freedom.”
Submitted plans also include the provision of two car parking spaces, fencing and a mobile field shelter.
County Hall’s public consultation on proposal 26/00126/FUL ends on 21st April and a decision is due on 3rd May.

Ah yes I’m sure people will be queueing around the block to rent a field for their dog to run around in during a cost of living crisis.
Being a dog owner, I think it’s a brilliant idea.
Certainly a brilliant idea by whoever is going to make money for letting dogs run around on grass, Freddie. And is ‘reactive’ modern nonsense-speak for ‘badly or untrained’ perchance?
