Challenging pin positions set the tone for Westridge Golf Club’s Men Championship on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of September.
The Competition started on the Saturday in fairly calm conditions, but the course was well protected by the pin positions.
n the Scratch Competition, Chris Royl found his way the best, carding a steady 72. Kim Meguyer was playing well though and moving to second with a 74. Mark Royl placed himself in close order, in third on 76.
The Handicap Competition was equally well poised. Gordon Debenham had a storming round, scoring 60 net and the only under par round of the day. Kim Meguyer’s 74 left him level par with 62 net. Melyvn Probyn slipped in to 3rd place with 63 net.
Day 2 saw the weather becoming the main challenge. At about 10:20 the rain started, accompanied with thunder and lightning. A 50 minute suspension in play followed as the lightning passed by through the Smallbrook Valley. Although the rain was still falling, play finally resumed with a slightly reduced field.
