An Isle of Wight equestrian has been nominated for Amateur Rider of the Year at the prestigious Horse & Hound Awards.
Megan Champney featured on Island Echo earlier this year when she and her pony, Penrock Perfect Puzzle (Portia), qualified for the Horse of the Year Show, in which she finished 11th last week. She also qualified for the Royal International Horse Show, picking up the win in the final back in July.
Now, Megan has been shortlisted from hundreds of entries to make the final 4 in the Horse & Hound Awards – but she needs your help.
The competition is now open to a public vote and Islanders are being asked to put their name to Megan by visiting https://www.hhawardsuk.com/vote?i=Ag4shFI4uWF8i6w1xz3nQKIcrZBs2w2y.
Megan says:
“This is a huge accolade and one that sees me nominated alongside Olympians, world champions and the best equine members of the country. It would be a huge honour to win.
“Winning the RIHS on a home-produced pony this year was a dream come true. My work can be challenging mentally and physically due to the nature of the role, but having my horses is the therapy I need to help me through it – but I do question my choices when its raining and I’m knee-deep in mud!”
The winner will be revealed on 27th November 2024 when the awards ceremony is held at the IXL Events Centre, Warwickshire.
