The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the Island for the 3rd time this weekend, this time attending a medical emergency in Freshwater Bay.
Leaving their Thruxton base at around 15:45 this afternoon (Sunday), the air ambulance circled the Freshwater Bay area before landing in a field between The Albion Hotel and Dimbola Lodge.
On the ground, a single ambulance from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is currently present on Gate Lane.
It is believed a medical incident has occurred on the beach, however, the exact location is unknown.
Yesterday, the air ambulance responded to 2 medical incidents on the Isle of Wight in both East Cowes and Newport respectively.
UPDATE – The casualty has not been conveyed to hospital by air ambulance, with the helicopter returning to base.

Probably soaked in alcohol from the coastguard bar.
I have never understood how an emergency service situated on a beach can sell alcohol.
It’s an accident waiting to happen.
It was an old person who had a walking frame & lost their footing nothing to do with drinking…..I think you will find it’s not the emergency service who sell the alcohol, it’s an independent proprietor.
Get your facts correct!
You really need to get your facts right before slating the bus all the time
Sloop John B, Do us all a favour and SLOOP OFF!!
You’ve been told a number of times that the travelling tavern has nothing to do with the coastguard. You have also been told that the tavern gives a percentage of its takings towards the independent lifeboat.
Perhaps your fixation with anything to do with alcohol is a personal problem you’re dealing with.
There are people that can help you.
The air ambulance really is a lifesaver, A seriously ill patient has on many occasions been flown directly to the mainland for treatment, and it really does point out that as an island we rely on a service paid for by charitable donations, Make no mistake I am NOT a believer in a fixed link, however as an island, we require a far better health service to provide the treatment required on occasion, one inadequate hospital is not serving the population well. If donations to the air ambulance were to fall where would we be then?
A big thank you to the air ambulance teams, none of us know when we may require their services.
Well said …
I had a friend taken to q a Portsmouth, saved his life .
Amazing awesome work they carry out.
