Cowes RNLI lifeboat was tasked to assist the few of a 32–foot yacht which had gone aground on the Bramble Bank at the entrance of Southampton Water this afternoon (Sunday).
On board the stricken yacht were 2 men – 1 of whom had a mild head injury – 2 women, and a 15–year–old girl.
So hard-aground was the yacht that the lifeboat failed in an attempt to tow it off The notorious sandbank.
Although it had been planned to take 3 of the people, including the girl, back to Cowes, the yacht was eventually ‘bounced’ afloat by a wave. Then with its crew back on board, it was able to proceed to Hythe.
The volunteer lifeboat crew were tasked again this evening alongside Bembridge Coastgyard Rescue Team following reports of small sailing boat apparently in trouble off Seaview.
Coastguard Rescue Officers attended the beach and assessed the situation, at which point the lifeboat was stood down.
