A man stuck in the mud at Priory Bay in St Helens has prompted a response from the Coastguard and fire crews this evening (Monday).
Coastguard Rescue Crews from Ventnor and Bembridge are at the scene alongside numerous fire crews from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service – 1 from Ryde and 2 from Newport were alerted to the incident at around 17:30.
Island Echo understands that a male has become stuck in the mud at Priory Bay and is up to his waist.
Due to the remote nature of the stricken individual, Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat has also been drafted in to reach the male.
All emergency service crews have currently set up a rendezvous spot in the car park down at The Duver.
Coastguard officers are currently kitting up in their mud rescue gear and life jackets.
UPDATE @ 18:43 – The inshore lifeboat is currently still transporting kit and personnel from the rendezvous point to the site of the incident.
UPDATE @ 19:15 – The male has been lifted aboard the inshore lifeboat and has been transferred back to the rendezvous point where he will be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by an ambulance.

Good job by all involved.
What a bloody waste of money that was, all those crews for one man. The firemen will get their money just for a call out, thats why they come in numbers, cost us tax payers a furtune.Time to look into this me thinks.
well I hope that, if you ever find yourself in a simular situation, you make sure to tell all the emergency services not to waste the money on trying to rescue you!
Are the fire service not salaried as they are full time from ryde and newport as only retained get paid per shout?
What a stupid comment, just you hope that your never in need for assistance from any of the emergency services and if you do lets hope you get very little in the way of assistance.
