A 23-year-old man has been arrested and questioned after an alleged assault on Union Street over the weekend saw 1 man taken to hospital.
As first reported by Island Echo, officers responded to Union Street at 01:28 on Saturday morning after a man was assaulted in what was described as a ‘melee’.
A 31-year-old man was injured in the incident and was taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
In order to conduct investigations, Police had to close the road to traffic, erecting a cordon between Sam’s Chicken and Biscoes.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said that the 23-year-old was arrested on Sunday and was detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He has since been released from custody but remains under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
