Police have closed the main Newport to Sandown road at Apse Heath tonight (Wednesday) following a collision involving a motorcycle.
Emergency services are currently in attendance on the A3056 between Branstone Cross and Apse Heath Roundabout.
Island Echo understands a motorcycle has been involved in a collision with another vehicle on the S bends by the ‘Apse Heath’ sign.
An Eddie Stobart lorry, heading towards Morrisons in Lake, has stopped at the scene. The motorcycle is said to be underneath the trailer.
The crash happened shortly before 20:55.
Motorists are being diverted locally via Little Princelett Shute and/or Winford.
UPDATE – The motorcyclist has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital having been given initial casualty care by firefighters from Shanklin.
The road has now re-opened.

Since the yellow speed cameras have been taken away, traffic speeds through Lake and Victoria Avenue at alarming speeds, nearer 60 than 30mph very often
Surely the Police realise that when the have their camera van, that traffic is flashed by other cars and that is the ONLY reason they catch very few speeding cars?
Their attitude is, ‘well at least it slows down cars’ BUT ONLY whilst they are there.
The fixed cameras slowed most, even when rumoured to be empty.
As video cameras are so cheap refit them and quickly
Hi tech is so good now, it would be cheap and simple to catch all speeding cars, IF they wanted to. So WHY not?.
Apse Heath,is neither Lake or Victoria Avenue.
agree entirely only speeders will be against this comment,
Yeah and they got rid of one at horsebridge hill too!
Get your geography right before you blame people
Nobody flashed me the other day
It’s not as easy as chucking your old Sony camcorder in there and sending the footage off to Jeremy Beadle..
Hope the motorcyclist is ok? Please don’t post comments unless you know what actually happened??
Are you the thought police??
Likewise, I hope the lorry driver isn’t too badly traumatised by having a motorcyclist go under his wheels.
Something has got to be done to try and stop all these accidents that are happening on the roads. People’s driving/riding ability is very poor or they are speeding. Actually, to be fair, it’s both!
Best wishes to the motorcycle rider hope they make a full recovery
people on here are such knobs stop commenting on the what ifs lots of over things cause accidents not just speeding and bad driving imagine if that was your loved one and they were hurt and a bunch of knobs on island echo were accussing you loved one of them being at fault at their accident. you people who comment on here are just sad and internet trolls no doubt half of you dont pass 15mph on the road and shouldnt be driving anyway so you cant comment because you are just as much of a danger as speeders but you are all too up your own arses to realise
At the end of the day it is the arrogant obnoxious I own the road attitude of island drivers not all but the majority of them have it that causes the accidents that is what the police should be targeting not only the police but the driving standards agency that set and provide the drivers test 90% of driving is attitude towards other road users you are tested on your attitude in your drivers test this section of the test should be more complex everyone should have to undergo a psychological evaluation b4 they can even apply for a provisional licence and a mandatory 2 years as a Learner on a motorcycle b4 you can even learn to drive a car
Most Car drivers would not pass a motorcycle test but should all have to ride one before a car
And, take a breath.
Someone was at fault, could have been a number of reasons.. hopefully won’t do that again !!
Why must someone have been “at fault”? There are, although rare, such things as blameless accidents. Although not in your book, obviously.
The hate on here directed towards some poor sod who at the very least has had a very bad day is a reflection on island mentality.
Best leave them be, to stew in their vile own juices.
Why can’t people WAIT until it’s actually confirmed what happened before commenting?
Yes, it ‘might’ be bad driving but not necessarily. It could have been a mechanical problem, a medical incident or simply an ACCIDENT. We don’t know, so why are people speculating without knowing the facts?
