Lloyds Pharmacy located within Sainsbury’s supermarket in Newport is to close for the last time on 25th July 2023.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the company is shutting all of its 237 in-store branches this year in response to changing market conditions. It comes just 8 years after Lloyds Pharmacy bought the pharmacy network for a whopping £125million and less than a year after the chain was bought by Aurelius.
The branch at the Newport-based supermarket is often the latest-closing pharmacy on the Island.
Around a week later, Island Echo also reported on the announcement that Lloyds were also going to close the Pyle Street branch, with rival pharmacist Day Lewis set to move in.
The closure of Lloyds Pharmacy at Sainsbury’s will leave just 3 other branches on the Isle of Wight; Pyle Street in Newport, Esplanade in Ryde and East Cowes Medical Centre, East Cowes.

Think its a loss as Supermarket Pharmacies are so convenient.
The problem as I see it… the Pharmacy was way to small, the staff having to negotiate around all the items piled up on the floor. So many people using this Pharmacy that they were overrun with prescriptions.
Going into the town for a prescription or other medication is so inconvenient.
I hope they get taken over and get given more space in Sainsbury.
