Beach Lifeguards will be returning to our beaches in Ryde and Sandown from Monday. The Lifeguards are on Duty from 11:00 – 18:00 each day, located in Ryde behind The Big Kahuna, and in Sandown in front of The Reef restaurant. Look for the red and yellow flags on the beach and swim between them. The flags show that it is safe to swim within the flagged area. The Red flag indicates the water is too dangerous for swimming. Lifeguards also help with:
- First aid
- Finding lost children
- Tourist information
- Enforcing by-laws
Additionally in the summer months, the lifeguard service uses its patrol boat or jet ski. This enforces the sea by-laws and keeps the bathing zone clear for only swimming. If there are any issues then the public is encouraged to speak to the lifeguard on duty. Every summer RBLG’s Lifeguards deal with hundreds of incidents and save many lives. Todd Miller – Beach Manager, has said:
“If you are visiting either Ryde or Sandown this summer, please swim between the red and yellow flags and do come see us if you need any help or advice. We are also pleased to have Beach Wheelchairs available at both sites this year, for adults and children, so again please speak to the Lifeguards if you would like to use one of our wheelchairs during your visit. Stay safe.”

Just dont start to get into trouble before and after those times folks!
Perhaps the Chavy parent and more rarely parents of state funded children could manage to look up from their phone screens for the duration their children are on the beach.
A pain I understand but as schools feed them , working people fund them, and others pay for the roof over their heads, then not too much to ask.
