The Isle of Wight Festival 2016 came to an incredible close last night (Sunday) as headliners Queen + Adam Lambert made their UK festival debut, captivating crowds with a thrilling hit-after-hit finale.
Crowds packed into the main stage arena to see the band perform foot stomping hits including ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year.
There was also something for those wanting a break from the back to back live music programme; The Field of Dreams played host to a 30ft screen showing the Northern Ireland V Poland football match, while film fans at the Big Top were treated to the mesmerising audio/visual experience of Gutterdämmerung “the loudest silent film”, with a surprise on-stage cameo from punk icon Henry Rollins.

Welsh rockers Feeder (pictured right) rounded off the Big Top line-up in front of a massive crowd, treating them to a roaring set with songs that spanned across their entire eight album, three compilation, two EP, 34 single career.
Adam Lambert joined Absolute Radio’s Pete Donaldson backstage at the Isle of Wight festival and spoke of the shock at the news in Orlando.
He said:
“It’s a tragedy. I just know that so many lives were lost and it’s horrible. You know and it was a gay club. So my brothers and sisters I feel like we’re targeted for whatever reason. And it’s horrible and that’s really all there really is to say, I mean it’s … it’s not even worth me trying to speculate right now on what solutions can be done. It’s time for mourning I think.”
Lambert later went on to dedicate the Isle of Wight Festival set to those involved in the shootings in Florida.
Over the course of the weekend, 60,000 festival goers basked in the Isle of Wight sunshine and enjoyed some incredible live performances throughout the first, and best, festival of the year.
