Firefighters have praised the quick actions of a homeowner in preventing a larger incident when their lawnmower caught fire in Ryde this morning (Wednesday).
1 appliance from Ryde was mobilised just before 11:50 to reports of a small electric lawnmower on fire at Sherbourne Avenue.
The crew arrived on scene to find a Flymo completely destroyed as a result of dry grass catching alight inside the lawnmower.
Before the fire could spread to the rest of the garden or nearby buildings, the homeowner moved the lawnmower onto the road where it couldn’t spread.
Firefighters used a hose reel to dowse the machine.

Why didn’t they put it out themselves?
If it’s damaged the road surface island roads will bill for patching it up
Totally agree, why don’t the retained fire fighters complain? Is it to do with next year’s funding by any chance? I presume the more call outs (shouts) they get, the more money they receive?
Was the grass on fire when he or she was cutting it lol ha ha ha
