Worried about over 70s? Perhaps they should educate more 20 to 30 year olds. No one age group is perfect but younger adults appear to be braking rules more than older ones.

Not just young people mate. Older people are just as bad. I work in a supermarket and older people can’t wait to gossip with their elderly peers whilst right next to each other. Kind of gets annoying when you risk your life going to work to pay bills and not that many people (of all ages) follow social distancing.

I go to a local supermarket to shop adhering to the spacing rules only to find I have to try and get through the people working there in a group on the way out having to almost touch them to get past

Go to the big co op in freshwater the younger staff are talking face to face and getting in everyone’s way, totally disregarding the health warnings, no keeping the safe 2 metres distance. DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS. Wake up or tomorrow you’ll be the burden on the NHS.

davey – stop whining. 2 metres is not based on any scientific research of fact – it was dreamt up out of thin air.

the staff don’t want to be there, having to put up with you and other customers, when they would rather be at home on 80% cash. Most probably live with parents, so turning up for work, means busting their arses for 20% of their pay in reality, as they could be getting 80% for doing eff all at home.

Actually the 2 meters is recommended by the experts as being the approximate distance coronavirus can travel when an infected person coughs, it’s not just dfeamed up. Don’t believe me check out the WHO website. Ther virus can travel further if an infected person sneezes in which cvase 3.5 meters would be recommended. I no longer live on the Island and, frankly, I do miss it but right now there seems to be such an attitude of complacency I’m surprised your infaction rate and death toll isn’t much higher; for some of you, forgive my insult, but “thick” is probably an undertstantement. Thank God yr just a tine minority.

Younger age groups aren’t affected so how would having old people (who ARE affected) help change their behavior?

Younger people are affected mate, they infect grandparents, aunties and uncles etc. It’s not just about being ill, it’s about protecting other to people.

How about the teenagers who don’t think it affects them because they’re young so they don’t even think to move out the way when I’m pushing my push chair on a narrow pavement causing me having to go into the road in order to keep the 2m distance.

Same in Bembridge. I went for my walk last night at about 8pm and there were a group smoking weed in the graveyard opposite Warburtons. They simply don’t care.

Bembridge has a lot of such from the building directly behind the grave yard. I have seen some deal in the grave yard whilst I was in there tending a grave. No shame or care. Low life infests everywhere now.

Bembridge has a lot of drug users now. Evidence is in the public toilets, which are now locked, so hence they ‘do’ their fix in other equally less suitable locations. Shameful in graveyards.

Some older guy comes into the graveyard at Lane End from the flats behind it, shuffles about, not tending a grave and gives a package to a younger man who quickly walks away.

Yes, to a thick person it could be a Birthday Prezzie from Grandad to Grandson, just never had time to wrap such, nor time to wish a ‘happy birthday’ either, and, clearly has memory issues as happens far more than once a year, BUT to normal people, who see such it is clear what is going on.

Groups of low life sit smoking and it is not difficult to smell it is not Players No6.

The public toilet has had evidence of drug abuse on occasions when I have had to use such.

Me thinks the man doth protest too loudly. Apply for a job in court, the way they let off everyone with a feeble excuse, you would be overqualified one imagines.

Try looking at todays updates re deaths and the age groups it has taken.
A further 329 people who tested positive for the coronavirus have died in England.
NHS England said the patients were aged between 29 and 100-years-old.
Does that help you as it appears you are struggling to grasp reality.

That ‘group’ wasn’t ‘on Colwell Bay, but way above the bay between Totland and Colwell, in One Horse Field. Miles from anyone, although you could hear them shouting!

Surely it doesn’t matter where the group was, the point is that there shouldn’t be a GROUP. Coronavirus doesn’t distinguish between a field or a town or a beach, GROUPS of people together pass it around.

Not surprised. Has been a marked relaxation in behaviour and attitude towards lockdown in the last week or so by many people. Hope the new cases get through it safe. I think someone in authority on IOW needs to make a crystal clear statement.

Not in authority but here’s a crystal clear statement for you based on formal advice issued by government departments and senior police bodies and widely published in the national media.

You ARE allowed to go out for daily exercise and ARE allowed to drive to get there.

You ARE allowed to rest for short periods during that exercise and that could mean sitting on a bench and even taking refreshments.

Not going out at all IS NOT totally banned.

Staying in 24/7 WILL eventually have physical and psychological consequences.

Spreading panic, fear and misinformation WILL lead to suffering and, possibly, death.

Over the top interpretations of the restrictions has been shown to have a NEGATIVE impact on compliance.

The purpose of the regulations are to avoid virus transfer by REDUCING contact, safe distancing achieves this.

The measures are about social distancing, NOT incarceration.

Clear enough?

No wonder more are dying than surviving once admitted to hospital on the Island.

Everyone has now an excuse, but to be fair, I think HMG know almost all will eventually catch this anyway, regardless of isolation etc, as they HAVE to get us back to work.

The lock down is ONLY being used to buy time to get enough beds in hospitals in the UK for us to then ‘die’ out of sight of our loved ones, and, more importantly to the Tories, out of the gaze of the media, who would tear them to pieces should the NHS not be able to take in the huge amounts of dying should lock down not have happened.

NOW we will still die at similar amounts, just over a longer period, but, importantly in a hospital, or ex con’s bed.

Then just a number, NOT a person to the watching worlds media, easier for all the then accept.

It is all HMG can do. Any ‘better suggestions’ as HMG have the country their party, the economy and the people to try to appease.

.When confronted same old reason i am o.k i am not carrying anything or i’m fed up with it all now.. So unfortunately
you can see why old people are the main carriers.

The old have less to live for though, so many feel they have had a good life, know that pain, aches, disability, failing eyes, ears, legs, hands, etc is all life soon will have to offer, so just are more casual about it all, and just making the most of NOW.

Hard to argue with some of them I know.

I have not ben out more than 6 times since the lockdown and always keep away from others and wear something over my face. You should look at the youngsters out and about – like yesterday when 3 motorcyclists were racing through Shanklin. We are not the man carriers as if we don;t meet anyone we will not be infected

I thought the lockdown was in place so the NHS could cope with the increase of deaths from the pandemic. Not so the general populas could moan. Scientific data suggests that EVERYONE should get their head out their own arse and LISTEN. Stay away from other folk. Simple..

I am sure the old people were told to stay in for 12 weeks? However, they’re the ones I see out and about walking and coming into the shop for a paper every day – Not essential! I am yet to see groups of children/young adults (other than with families) in my area?

No, not all old people were told to self isolate for 12 weeks, only ones with underlying health problems. There are so many comments on this thread that show not everyone knows what the rules are. I’m sure people like moaning about things but do nothing …. I trust all you people that are upset with groups of people not social distancing have made reports to the Police or your employers.

I went out for my walk around 6pm, there was hardly anyone around I am glad to report. That’s was down Ryde seafront. Just a family and a couple of dog walkers. I am saddened to hear there are so many out in other areas. You see small groups of young people out and it’s obvious they’re not related. They walk past my house Being loud inks. It’s these pratts that’ll keep this virus going on and on. No they’re safe but are ignorant to the fact that they are spreading it around…
And to this evening who are ludicrously in denial and think this is all a scam and it’s not that bad apparently, get real! We have lost three people so far to this vile disease, it’s real! And it is devastating. I cannot believe people are still not listening 🙁

ITS ABOUT TIME THAT SOMEONE IN AUTHORITY MADE IT CRYSTAL CLEAR AS TO WHAT THE ISOLATION RULES ARE .WE ARE LOOSING MORE LIVES BECAUSE THERE IS NO ONE IN AUTHORITY TO MAKE THE RULES FOR THE ISLE OF WIGHT , THEN SEE TO IT THAT THESE RULES ARE KEPT TO .WE WERE TOLD AT ON STAGE THAT POLICE WOULD BE TAKING PEOPLE TO COURT AND FINING THEM IF THEY WERNT ISOLATING , BUT THEY ARNT DOING THEIR JOB ARE THEY .

We need to work out how it is still spreading.

I go to sainsbury once every 2 weeks for my shopping I’ve got proper gloves and a reusable mask and always carry hand jell and I’m on a scooter. I work out what I need before going into the shop so I can get in and out very quickly but I have noticed lately people have run out of patients lately because a scooter is quite low people of all ages just stand next to me and a least 2 to 3 times people lean over me to get there produck. Don’t the young and middle aged people realise that if we can’t fight this now and hopefully find a cure in the next year or two they will be the next victim of this killer

It’s also of interest that your MP writing in national newspaper suggested the vaccine should be tested on the IOW.

From the comments posted it seems everyone has been breaking the rules, pointing fingers at each other does not change statistics, young people DO get sick , often to a lesser degree but they pass it on to god knows how many others and some of those people can be NHS staff, who we need desperately and who also have families, or to elderly and people with other conditions, Elderly people who often demand respect should also comply and think of the people who have to care for them when they get sick, I have a serious pre-existing condition and although I am well I can’t leave my home and haven’t done so for over a month, I miss my son and grandson and other family very much but the longer everyone keeps going out, mixing and spreading this disease the longer we all have to suffer isolation. I’m fed up and want to go out to the beach, I want to get my own shopping , I want to hug my family too, stop being so selfish and thinking only of yourselves. The rumour is the council want to turn us into an experiment to see how we would be if lockdown is eased, well it needs to be properly enforced before it can be eased. Come on people this is not the naughty step , IT’S LIFE AND DEATH the selfishness of people is unbelievable.

Let’s get this into perspective!
Yes this is a terrible disease that takes lives but life still goes on and people have a right to make their own choices. I’m sure that the majority of people who choose not to adhere rigorously do so knowing the risks they are taking and I’m sure they are taking precautions not to infect anyone dear to them. Generally they are not idiots but live by ‘we’ve all got to go sometime and if my time is now, so be it.
Also, the media are always the grime reapers: where are we told everyday how many have survived and harping on the positives rather than the negatives. This virus is simply not going to go away. Is everyone staying in lockdown until we find a vaccine? At some stage we have to bite the bullet and get back to everyday life. Many people die of influenza each year but people do not have the vaccination so they are putting their lives at risk. What is the difference other than this virus is more virulent and at present we do not have a vaccine. How are we going to build up immunity if we don’t start living again?

Old people (thst is over 65 shall we say ) have not been told to lock themselves away merely been advised to social distance in the same way as the rest of the population. If anyone of whatever age has a serious underlying health issue eg leukaemia or diabetes or lung conditions they should shield themselves and not leave home for 12 weeks even for shoping .The older generation are no more likely to be infected or to infect others thsn a 20 yr old tho they may be more at risk of becoming v.ill.Also life is sweet no matter if you are old or young.Everyone should follow the rules and stay at home as much as they can and not mix with anyone outside their household

I think you will find these are care home deaths and and not actually younger general public sadly. They sent into hospital tested and sent back for care

I think on the island we are doing better than larger cities

People are allowed out to walk run yoga and to sit down somewhere quiet for a break whilst exercising

You are also allowed to drive somewhere and walk provided your walk exceeds the time in which you spent driving.
