Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat was launched at the request of the Coastguard earlier this morning (Monday) to medivac the Captain of a tanker who was suffering from internal pains.
The call for assistance came from the ‘Cielo di Guangzhou’ – which was anchored in the Nab Anchorage – at around 04:35.
It was reported to Solent Coastguard that the 39-year-old Italian Captain was unwell and needed hospital treatment. .
Thankfully, it did not take long for Bembridge’s All Weather Lifeboat to reach the ship. Although it was initially thought that the Captain would need to be transferred on a stretcher, he was in fact able to walk with assistance which sped up the operation.
As soon as the casualty was safely onboard the lifeboat, the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ returned to the Lane End, Bembridge where an ambulance was waiting to transfer him to St Mary’s for a check up.
