Dominic Marsh has brought home a Bronze Medal from the World Association of Kickboxing (WAKO) World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey at the weekend.
Fighting as 1 of 16 kickboxers in the under 67 kilos category, Dominic came up against a larger Turkish opponent – Tutal Deniz – in the 1st Round and knocked him out with a left hook at the start of the 2nd round.
In the Quarter Final, the Isle of Wight kickboxer fought a 2nd Turkish competitor – Cevik Emirhan – and scored a knock down in the 1st round before conserving his energy for the remainder of the fight to secure a comfortable points victory.
In the semi final, Dominic faced the Iranian Champion Nasiri Ali, who had come 3rd in the Asian Games. Unfortunately, the fight was stopped in the 2nd round after Dominic had been struck by a blow to the shin.
Island Echo caught up with the ‘sore but uninjured’ Island kickboxer after his exploits in Istanbul.

Dominic said:
“3 fights in 3 days was a fantastic experience. It was excellent preparation for the World Championships in Portugal in November.
“This was my best performance to date – holding my own against some of the finest kickboxers in the world and getting 2 dominant victories.
“My next ambition is to gain a podium place at the European and World championships.”
Island fight fans keen to see the medal winner in action will be pleased to learn that Dominic will be competing at Fight Island in Ryde on 12th August.
