A group of Isle of Wight singers entertained the crowds at Disneyland in Paris last month after being selected by park bosses for their Disney magic.
It was last year that members of Voices of the Isle of Wight applied to take part in the ‘Take Me To The Magic’ experience, which enables selected amateur groups to perform on stage at Disneyland Paris.
The lengthy process of applying and being considered included sending a video audition so that the panel in France could see the Disney magic shining through in their performance.
After a tense wait, the singers received wonderful feedback from the judges saying that they very much enjoyed the video: it demonstrated lovely, well-rehearsed voices with good harmonies and arrangements. As a result, the Island singers were invited over to Paris to perform for the park’s visitors.
On 19th October, led by musical director Linda Filby-Borrett, the choir set off to fulfil their dream. Island singers Sarah Harris, Lottie Harris, Tali Monaghan, Grace Dempsey, Lucy Brown, Nancy Borrett, Lucy Hinkley, Eva Whitehead, Hope Evans, Mary-Rose Fleming and Grace Thomson travelled across the Channel.
The following day they entertained the Disneyland crowds with a selection of songs including Singing in the Rain, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Edelweiss, I Could Have Danced All Night, Super Trooper and Thank You for the Music – the last song being very appropriate as not only were their audience thankful and impressed at hearing such beautiful voices; the members of the group were also very thankful for the opportunity to showcase their talent on such a prestigious stage.
