A well-established Isle of Wight service station is looking to build a large industrial building to house three of its most valuable ‘heavy duty’ vehicles.
Mr D. Radford of Bartletts Service Station submitted a planning application to to construct a steel framed structure to provide undercover parking at Langbridge Business Centre near Newchurch.
The family-owned Island business ‘provides 24/7 all Island coverage for vehicle recovery specialising in large vehicle recovery such as HGVs, buses and coaches’, according to the Andrew White Planning Consultancy.
A Design, Access and Planning Statement from Mr Radford’s agent said:
“This application relates to a successful Island business providing employment for Island residents and contributing to the Island economy.
“There has been considerable investment in the business to ensure it has the fleet and equipment to meet these challenges.
“The proposed size, design and appearance of the building is entirely appropriate to its function and location…it will have no adverse impacts on the character and appearance of the surrounding area.”
The business owns a large fleet of heavy duty recovery vehicles which are all stored outside. The undercover storage will provide protection from the elements and prolong the life of the vehicles.
The council’s public consultation on the proposal finishes on 13th May and a decision is due on 30th May.
