The Isle of Wight Randonnee 2020 looks set to clash with another major event following the announcement of the provisional date for next year’s cycling event this morning (Monday).
Organisers of the annual extravaganza, the Wayfarers Cycle Touring Club, say that to keep the Randonnee in line with the early May Bank Holiday the event will be held on Sunday 10th May 2020.
Today’s announcement has rung alarm bells with some as Mountbatten’s Walk the Wight will be taking place on the same day, as announced by the charity several weeks ago.
The Isle of Wight Randonnee was established by the Wayfarers Cycle Touring Club in 1985. The free, family friendly event is the largest event of its kind on the South Coast and attracts around 3,000 participants each year.
Walk the Wight is Mountbatten’s unique and world famous walk that attracts thousands of people each year. Participants walk across the beautiful Isle of Wight countryside to raise money in support of patient and family care provided by Mountbatten. Next year will be the 30th anniversary of the event, whilst the Randonnee will be celebrating 35 years.
Both events are major parts of the Island’s calendar. It remains to be seen if one of the organisations will change their date, or whether both events will take place on 10th May 2020.

I hope this time the cyclists will stick to the cicle tracks and not clog up the roads.
Either that or they will take over the FOOTpaths. I was told by one of them yesterday that even though there are signs saying no cycling or horseriding it was OK for him to continue. Cyclists seem to have their own set of rules.
Really!!!!bit hard when theres no cycle track from alverstone to freshwater!!!!!!!!..always one!!!!
The Randonnee date has now been moved to Sunday 3rd May.
