INFOGRAPHIC: The Isle of Wight has one of the highest rates of divorce in the UK, according to international family law firm Cordell & Cordell.
Their infographic (included below) suggests that 11.56% of couples on the island regret saying “I do” and have filed for divorce. Despite its idyllic surroundings, the Isle of Wight is ranked sixth among the UK locations that see the most divorces.
Meanwhile, those living in Blackpool and Hastings may come to regret it after coming in joint first with 13.13%. Worthing had the lowest divorce rate of the top 10, with 11.23%.
Strangely, all those that made it into the top 10 are located along the coastline. This could be a result of the large number of Royal Navy personnel stationed in these areas and the strain placed on marriages by lengthy periods at sea.
The data also shows that 42% of marriages now end in divorce and that adultery was the most common reason for it.
The international family law firm also states that the average length of a marriage in the UK is 32 years, with the biggest risk of divorce between the fourth and eighth wedding anniversaries.
The infographic also highlights that the UK has 2 million lone parents with dependent children; 91% of these are mothers and just 9% are fathers.
