“Please consider leaving us a gift in your Will” say 3 south coast hospices, as Mountbatten Hampshire, Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Oakhaven Hospice unite, along with other UK hospices, for a national campaign.
From today (Monday), the charities will be joining over 125 other hospices taking part in the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign, spearheaded by Hospice UK.
The targeted adverts bring together palliative and end-of-life care experts from across the country, including: Mountbatten Hampshire, which is based in Southampton and which covers large parts of Hampshire; Mountbatten Isle of Wight; and Oakhaven Hospice, which supports patients and families through end of life, death and bereavement in the New Forest, Totton and Waterside communities.
Gifts in Wills left to Oakhaven, Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Mountbatten Hampshire are vital for the future delivery of expert and compassionate care for the people they serve. Whether a set amount or a percentage of your estate, large or small, every single gift is appreciated.
Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s care reaches 70% of deaths on the Island while, in the last three years, Mountbatten Hampshire’s 24/7 services have seen a 71% increase in demand.
Referrals to Oakhaven’s hospice services have increased by 122% over the last 5 years, requiring an expansion of its specialist community nursing team. All 3 hospices only receive a fraction of the NHS funding they need, via their Integrated Care Board.
For Mountbatten Hampshire, serving Southampton and large parts of Hampshire, and Mountbatten Isle of Wight, CEO Becky McGregor, said:
“Leaving a gift in your Will helps us plan for the future and ensure our expert staff and trained volunteers can be here for the people who need them, now and in the future, as well as supporting family and friends dealing with bereavement.
“We want to thank you, if you have already included Mountbatten Hampshire or Mountbatten Isle of Wight in your Will and we want to invite you to consider leaving a gift to Mountbatten if you haven’t thought of this before. This will really help us change lives and deaths in the communities we serve”.
Andrew Ryde, Chief Executive of Lymington-based Oakhaven Hospice, which serves the New Forest, Totton and Waterside communities, said:
“As a charity, only 11 per cent of our funding is covered by the NHS; for the remaining 89 per cent, we rely on the generosity of our community. Last year, gifts left in Wills to Oakhaven covered the cost of care for one in four of our patients — a true lifeline supporting local families at the most difficult of times.
“Please consider leaving Oakhaven a gift in your Will — and many thanks if you have already made a pledge. We are so very grateful for every gift left in a Will, whatever its size. Your generosity allows us to make a real difference for families throughout the New Forest, Totton and Waterside, making every moment matter. Every gift left to us in a Will is a lasting legacy that ensures we will be here to care for loved ones in our community when they need us most for generations to come.”

Our Hospice is crucial for our Island I think any money raised must continue the fantastic service for people on end of life care.
