A group of Mountbatten Isle of Wight fundraisers are preparing to take on a 240km husky sled challenge across the snowy wilderness of northern Sweden later this month.
After a short acclimatisation period, the team will begin the challenge on Friday 20th March, guiding teams of husky dogs through the Arctic landscape before finishing at Sweden’s Ice Hotel on Friday 27th March.
The group has already raised more than £40,000 to support Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s 24/7 end-of-life care, around 85% of which is delivered in the homes of people across the Isle of Wight.
Among those taking part is Adam, whose mother was cared for by Mountbatten before she died of lung cancer 18 months ago.
Adam said:
“My mum died of lung cancer 18 months ago and was cared for by Mountbatten Isle of Wight.”
Ed said he was inspired to take part after witnessing the hospice’s work first-hand.
“I’m taking on this challenge because I’ve witnessed, first-hand, the extraordinary work that Mountbatten Isle of Wight does.”
Other participants include David, Will, Sarah, Beccie, Craig and Vanda, Zoe and Sammy, many of whom are taking part in memory of loved ones who were supported by the hospice.
The challengers are being supported by experience provider Global Adventure Challenges.
Harri McNeil, from Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s fundraising team, said:
“It’s been a privilege getting to know our incredible and intrepid fundraisers. Their efforts have already raised over £40,000, helping Mountbatten deliver its expert and compassionate 24/7 end-of-life care.”
