A Graphic Design student from the Isle of Wight College has created a new brand identity for the Isle of Wight Sea Pool following a successful collaboration between the 2 organisations.
James Watson, a final-year Level 3 Graphic Design student, designed the new logo, icon and supporting elements as part of his course project. His work was guided by lecturer Louise Downer and supported by fellow students.
The Isle of Wight Sea Pool Project Team had been seeking a local solution for their branding, wanting to showcase local creative talent and offer young people a chance to get involved in one of the Isle of Wight’s most ambitious future projects. Board Director Marnie Janaway reached out to the college with a design brief, inviting students to submit their concepts.
Two designs were shortlisted, but James’s work was selected by the Sea Pool team for its creativity and alignment with the project’s values. He will now work with the project’s marketing group to roll out the new brand identity across all materials, including the website, social media, banners and signage.
James, who begins a Marketing Degree at Portsmouth University later this month, has also been awarded £250 to support his future studies. He will continue to support the Sea Pool project as the brand custodian.
Sue Barker, Isle of Wight Sea Pool Project Board Director, has said:
“As a project team we have an objective to use local skills in this project wherever we can. This collaboration fulfils that as well as bringing new energy into the team.
“We are really impressed by the creativity and professionalism that James has brought to this project so far and excited to see it coming to life over the next few months.”
Louise Downer, Lecturer in Graphic Design, has said:
“From the Isle of Wight College perspective we know our students benefit hugely from collaborations with local organisations. It offers them real life opportunities to put their newly learned skills into practise.
“This project with Isle of Wight Sea Pool will put the skills of our students on the map for years to come.”
The new logo and full brand identity will be officially launched later in the autumn, once it has been incorporated into all of the project’s marketing materials.
