With recent news of traffic chaos in the East Cowes, Islanders are being asked to support the towns local businesses who have been affected by the gridlock.
After days of delays and traffic congestion on several of the towns main roads and residential streets caused by the planned phased roadworks taking place, many businesses have noticed a decline in trade.
Island Roads has released an update on the situation, and says that it’s teams have made several changes to the traffic management system in place.
According to local residents and traders, traffic in the town is now flowing more freely with no delays today as of yet.
Posting on Facebook, The Lunch Box cafe, said:
“As all were told to avoid the area with yesterday’s traffic, thought we would give an update on how lovely and clear the traffic is this morning!”
Local Councillor, Karl Love, has also urged Islanders to support the towns economy.
In addition to the update on the changes to the traffic management system, Island Roads has commented on calls for a 20mph limit to be introduced on roads being used as part of the diversion routes.
An Island Roads spokesperson said:
“It has been suggested that a temporary reduced speed limit is introduced along the new diversion route.
“While safety is clearly of paramount importance, the effectiveness of speed limits does depend on police enforcement, and it is unlikely that such police resources will be available.
“We will of course monitor speeds along the diversion route and take any action to ensure the diversion route is safe.”
The contractor says that the situation in the town will continue to be monitored as works progress.

island roads and the council should pay east cowes businesses compensation for starting the works at a time when they knew it would cause disruption. Can’t any of them work that out?
I’ll come and support East Cowes businesses, come in the car and add to the chaos. Well thought through.
