The brand new team name for speedway on the Isle of Wight has been announced as the Wight Warriors.
The news broke via Island Speedway’s Facebook page yesterday (Thursday), which including the unveiling of the new logo (pictured left).
The Island’s speedway team was originally known as the Wight Wizards before becoming the Wightlink Islander’s for a number of years until the club’s demise in recent years. The past is in the past though as speedway is set to return to Smallbrook Stadium in 2016 as The Wight Warriors.
Island Speedway’s Operations Director Martin Widman said:
“Our new team name and logo gives us a fresh new look and optimizes what we are trying to achieve as we look to attract both new and existing fans to Smallbrook. We cannot wait to get started.”
A relieved Commercial Director Barry Bishop added:
“I cannot believe Martin and I managed to get this in the bag for so long as I have been bursting to tell the world for a long time. I love the new logo and team name and having ridden as a Wizard, supported as an Islander and now to be joint owner of the Warriors is a great feeling.
“The logo and names are perfect for our website and media channel, both of which will launch soon and I cannot wait to see it.
“I would like to thank Scribble Robot, Bravo-14, Speedway Portal and all those who kept the secret. We hope Warrior fans will be as proud of the logo as we are.”
