Police have closed the main road through Brading in both directions this afternoon (Saturday) whilst paramedics tend to an injured pedestrian.
The incident has occurred on New Road, between the junctions of Station Gardens and Wrax Road.
St John Ambulance paramedics, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, are on scene and are treating the casualty – understood to be an older male.
He is being immobilised and transferred onto a stretcher for onward conveyance to St Mary’s Hospital.
Motorists are being diverted from Rowborough Roundabout towards Ashey and at Yarbridge Cross towards Bembridge or The Downs.
All Southern Vectis buses are diverting via Bembridge and St Helens. This will cause lengthy delays.
UPDATE @ 16:10 – Island Echo understands the male fell off the pavement and into the carriageway.
He is now en-route to St Mary’s Hospital with a head injury.
The road is expected to re-open shortly.
UPDATE @ 16:22 – The road has now re-opened in both directions.
