Independent Arts is launching a new project entitled ‘Making Moves’, giving Islanders a chance to get creative through the medium of dance.
Sessions will be led by practitioner Michelle Hainsworth, who has wide experience running dance projects for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Making Moves is designed to help improve general health and well-being as well as boost confidence and a chance to meet new people. The project will initially run for six weeks and has been kindly funded by the ASDA Foundation, so sessions will be free for participants.
Community Engagement Manager Hannah Griffiths says:
“We’re really looking forward to getting a diverse group of dancers together to create something beautiful. Dance gives us chance to express ourselves in a different kind of way and is a great way to boost your mood. We want to get everyone involved and we are opening half the spaces in the sessions to those who have learning disabilities.”
Practitioner Michelle Hainsworth has said:
“We will be dancing for the whole session so anyone wanting to get involved will need to have a basic level of fitness. You don’t need any special equipment; we’ll be dancing barefoot so comfortable clothes you can move around in and a bottle of water are the only thing you’ll need. Anyone over 16 is invited to book a space and come along.”
The sessions will take place weekly on Thursday mornings in the Dance Studio at Medina Leisure Centre beginning on 15th September.
