A last minute yellow weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight as up to 20mm of rain could fall within just an hour or so this afternoon (Thursday).
Forecasters at IW Met Service say that a band of heavy, thundery rain is slowly pushing in from the West and is likely to affect the Isle of Wight over the next hour or 2.
Despite the rainfall area gradually weakening, a few heavier pockets could well give localised rainfall totals of 15-20mm in the space of an hour or so.
Islanders are being warned about the risk of flash flooding, debris across carriageways and polluted storm water affecting beaches.
The warning is in force from now until 17:00.

And yet, on CP:
‘A Met Office weather warning for thunderstorms has been cancelled.
The alert was due to come into force from 7am, until midday.
The forecaster was warning of a chance of flooding in some areas.
That warning has since been shelved, meaning there are none in place for the Island for today.’
This sounds like they have put a warning out again, left hand right hand comes to mind or is it IE are just making it up as they go along.
We are not associated with the UK Met Office and mostly just cater for the local area, hence the difference between the warnings, although you are free to choose where you want to put your faith, if anywhere at all 🙂
If you are paid to do a job, then do it
I think the CP got it wrong
Well both the thunder and rain have found Newport this afternoon, so someone’s wrong.
And Ryde. Was lashing it down.
And in Colwell !
The UK Met Office put out a warning for thunderstorms yesterday which was valid for this morning, but we did not agree with their warning and we did not issue one as the conditions didn’t meet the requirements to reach our severe weather threshold, nor did they even meet the requirements to produce a thunderstorm.
However we did see the risk for this afternoon and despite the computer models suggesting the thundery rain area weakening, we were confident enough that it would hit the island and that it would meet our requirements for a warning, so we issued a rather last minute warning for thundery downpours with the risk of localised flooding, which indeed did happen.
Where is Ive searle and their tarmac comments lol!
