ICRTouch has recently made a generous donation to support the Isle of Wight Foodbank’s Reverse Advent Calendar initiative.
The Reverse Advent Calendar encouraged people to select an item a day for 24 days of November, which, once donated, provides staple food items and treats to support individuals and families in need this Christmas.
Members of the ICRTouch team purchased bulk food items to make up a whole host of these Christmas packs and delivered them to the Foodbank’s HQ in Cowes last week.
Christmas time is a particularly busy time for the charity, with anywhere between 800-900 individuals visiting the Foodbank’s drop-in cafes across the Island in December alone. The Foodbank team, consisting mainly of volunteers, works tirelessly not just during the festive season, but all year round, to ensure those in need have the support they need.
Colin, ICRTouch CEO, joined the team to deliver the food items and said:
“Christmas can be a tough time for a lot of people and the Foodbank team works so hard to support people across the Island – it’s amazing to see the difference they make. We’re really proud to lend a hand and hope that these donations bring a little comfort and joy to those who need it this Christmas.”
85% of Foodbank users only visit once or twice, with most being working people who need extra support due to the cost of living crisis and loss of winter fuel
allowance.
Kay Lewis, Manager of the Isle of Wight Foodbank said:
”It’s truly inspiring to see such generosity from ICRTouch. Their donation will make a significant difference for many households across the Island this Christmas, we cannot thank them enough for their continued support. The Reverse Advent donations from local businesses, community groups and individuals help us to provide those little extras at Christmas time that make a big difference.”
For a country to need foodbanks in my opinion makes
it a third world country.
While Politicians are sitting in their tax payers paid for
2nd homes, eating food claimed for on their extortionate
expense claims with the heating on full blast
REMINDS ME WHY I WILL “NEVER” VOTE AGAIN FOR ANYONE!,
THEY ONLY DO THE JOB FOR THEIR OWN REWARDS, IF THEY
CARED THERE WOULD NOT BE THE NEED OF FOODBANKS
I think there’s a big difference between people ‘needing’ something, such as a foodbank, and ‘wanting’ it or making use of it when it’s there.
The unfortunate truth is that many of those claiming food etc from Foodbanks are not what the majority of us would consider to be living in poverty.
It’s relatively easy to get a referral to a Foodbank with a voucher – you can ring up Citizens Advice, get a referral from a doctor, talk to your Housing Association etc. None of these do checks on your finances, for the most part they simply take your word for it.
I worked for years in schools, and it’s an open secret amongst certain groups of parents on how to play the system, whether it’s Free School Meals, subsidised or free school trips, or accessing Foodbanks etc.
We’re not a 3rd world country – at least, not yet – but we’re certainly heading that way, because there’s no way that any country can sustain handouts, subsidised living, benefits payments etc on the level we currently are to a growing number of people in our society.
Not to mention all the handouts to the Royals
and all the extortionate expense claims made
by politicians.
I was reading earlier since 2019 162 Labour MPs
have claimed a total of £425,000.00 for energy.
Also on the Express website it stated that Liz Kendall who
lives in a £4 million pound mansion, and she cut the winter fuel allowance for the pensioners
Claims £350.00 per month on her tax payers paid for
2nd home.
It’s the politicians who are fleecing the Country, not
Benefit claimants.
Where are the details of how to support hte scheme?
What percentage of people really need the foodbank, I know several family’s
who use a food bank and definitely do not need assistance
Sadly many people milk the system.
