Hunnyhill Primary School, in Newport, is celebrating the start of an exciting new chapter as it officially joins Ormiston Academies Trust – one of the country’s leading education providers.
Ormiston runs 44 schools across the country, including Cowes Enterprise College, and is known for its strong values, focus on inclusion and commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
The move marks the culmination of months of collaboration and preparation, during which Hunnyhill has been working closely with colleagues from across Ormiston, including at Cowes. As part of this transition, the school will now be known as Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy, reflecting both its proud local identity and its new place within the Ormiston family of schools.
Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy will benefit from access to a strong national network of schools, additional professional development for staff, curriculum support and opportunities for collaboration. Pupils will also be able to access enrichment activities and expertise from across the Trust, while continuing to enjoy the rich curriculum, strong early years and excellent SEND provision already in place at Hunnyhill.
Looking ahead, both Hunnyhill and Ormiston are committed to building on these foundations and ensuring pupils across the Isle of Wight continue to thrive.
Lisa Steedman, Principal at Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy, said:
“Today is a hugely exciting moment for our school. Becoming part of Ormiston Academies Trust gives us the chance to build on everything we already do well, while also accessing new opportunities to strengthen teaching, learning and enrichment for our pupils. I would like to thank our staff, parents and community for their continued support as we begin this next chapter.”
Rachel Kitley, Principal at Cowes Enterprise College, said:
“This is a really positive milestone for education on the Island. Our partnership with Hunnyhill has already been so rewarding and now as part of the same Trust we can build even stronger links. This is about giving pupils the best possible opportunities from primary through to secondary and beyond.”
Tom Rees, Chief Executive Officer of Ormiston Academies Trust, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy into the Trust. This partnership is built on a shared vision and values, and it is a privilege to work with Lisa, Rachel and their teams to provide the very best education for children and young people on the Isle of Wight.”
Rebecca Bierton, Regional Director for Primaries at Ormiston Academies Trust, said:
“I’m so pleased to welcome Hunnyhill to Ormiston. Their strengths in early years and inclusive provision make them a fantastic addition to the Trust, and I look forward to working closely with colleagues there to share expertise and build on what is already a thriving school community.”

Straight down the pan just like the rest of the educational institutions this lot have had anything to do with. It’s ironic that the people who hand over the responsibility for education never learn.
If it was doing so well before why join a private academy, why fix what is not broken.
