Specially trained officers from the Prison Service’s ‘Tornado’ team were drafted in to deal with what is understood to have been a hostage situation at HMP Isle of Wight yesterday (Monday), Island Echo can exclusively reveal.
The dramatic situation began mid-morning and is said to have involved 2 male prisoners incarcerated at Parkhurst, 1 of which is thought to have been held hostage by the other.
The National Tactical Response Group (NTRG), which deals with emergencies in the prison system all over the country such as protests at height, riots and barricade events, was deployed to the Island to deescalate the situation. The Tornado officers were clad in riot gear and armed with batons and dogs.
Police officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were also sent to the prison on the outskirts of Newport to assist.
It has been confirmed that a man in his 30s sustained a neck injury during the high octane incident, but the full circumstances of how that injury was sustained have not yet been disclosed. His injury is not thought to be life changing or life-threatening at this time.
Despite confirmation of an injury, the Ministry of Justice has said that no injuries were sustained. They have not commented on the specifics of the incident.
It’s understood the incident was stood down by 17:00.
In a short statement, a spokesperson for HM Prison Service has said:
“Our brave staff safely resolved an incident involving 2 prisoners at HMP Isle of Wight on Monday 25th September. There were no injuries and the police are investigating.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has told Island Echo:
“This incident is currently under investigation. No arrests have been made at the current time”.
Aside from any criminal investigation, the prisoner at the centre of yesterday’s incident is expected to receive punishment from the Prison Service for breaking the rules of the regime.

Let the scumbags kill each other, then put some more in their place….
How can you imprison someone whose in prison already being imprisoned
They both need locking up!
He’ll already have the do-gooders all over him and is probably on suicide watch. Prisoners rarely have to answer for their poor behaviour in custody anymore.
Apart from being in prison I guess??
So long as the livestock are only inconveniencing each other then why bother making a fuss? Ping a few Kraft cheese slices under the door a couple of times a day and ignore it. They’ll come out soon enough when they get bored and till then they’re away from society and slightly less annoying than usual for the staff.
Seems a lot of fuss over a couple of lags who don’t really matter because they are doing porridge any way. More shit walking about out here doing as it likes now thanks to the do gooders interfering.
