Cowes RNLI lifeboat was tasked to assist 2 vessels during today’s Round the Island Race – 1 of which was holed during a yacht collision.
3 separate “patrols” were manned by 3 different crews in Cowes’ assigned region of mid-Solent during the day, with the initial launch at 0600 before the first race start at 0630.
For the lifeboat crew though, things were quiet until the end of the afternoon.
The crews first shout was to a homecoming yacht which was assisted onto its mooring, close to the lifeboat station, after jamming its headsail.

Shortly after giving assurance to this vessel, a “PAN PAN” call caused HM Coastguard to task Cowes RNLI to a yacht collision near Calshot, causing 1 vessel to be holed.
Calshot Lifeboat, upon hearing the nearby call for help, also launched and reached the casualty vessel first, requesting assistance from Cowes lifeboat for its doctor and another crew member to board the yacht and to give casualty care to 1 of the yacht crew, while Calshot towed the vessel to Hamble Point Marina for emergency lift.

The injured crew-member required no further treatment.
These “shouts” were the first for the lifeboat’s recently qualified Helm, Adam.

About time they started earning there money!.. innit tho..
