A man who assaulted a male known to him by punching him in the face whilst at a pub in Ryde could face a custodial sentence. Nathan Bett, 37, of St John’s Wood Road in Ryde, admitted assaulting a person occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage under £5,000. Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the court that on 29th September, at around 13:00 in the afternoon, Bett approached a male who was drinking on his own at Wetherspoons in Ryde and pulled a chair out from under him. Whilst the male was on the floor Bett punched him in the eye and in the face telling him ‘don’t have a go at my mum’. After the incident, the injured male noticed his nose was ‘well swollen’ and blood was pouring down his face. Bett was last in court back in 2008 when he was handed a suspended prison sentence for an offence of affray. Defending, Jim Osborne told the court that there is a history between the 2 individuals. The case was adjourned until 2nd February 2024 to allow an options pre-sentence report to be compiled.
