Ground investigation works are due to start in Wroxall following a landslip that reduced part of the B3327 to a single lane.
It was in November last year that a 4-metre section of embankment collapsed onto St John’s Road, near to its junction with Appuldurcombe Road.
Since then, temporary traffic lights have remained in place.
The Isle of Wight Council has now appointed Island Roads to arrange ground investigation works which will help develop design options for repairs.
Councillor Phil Jordan, Cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said:
“Until we get the results, we won’t be in a position to know what sort of solution will be needed to fix this landslip or the timescales involved.
“We are working to reopen the road to two-way traffic as swiftly as possible but, until there has been further analysis, it is important we do not remove the debris as this could potentially destabilise the embankment further.
“We hope this explains the current inconvenience.”

Island Roads to arrange ground investigation are you joking have you seen the state of the resurfacing they done.
Clearly ALL that is needed at the moment is for a series of Gabion cages 3 feet thick and four feet high to be placed hard against the bank AS the mud and debris is removed.
That way the Gabion Cages will hold back the remaining soil FAR better than a pile of soft mud ever will, the road could be fully open, and likely THAT would be all that is needed.
Piling could still take place behind the Gabion cages IF needed and of course they are cheap, easy to move when needed, can be added to if necessary and would ensure drainage and no more mud holding up traffic
So of course the Council and Island roads WON’T be doing such.
Ivy Searle must have shares in the UK’s biggest supplier of gabions. I’m very relieved she isn’t suggesting goblin cages.
Investigate works – simples -water run off and draining issue, two months to appoint – why didn’t council just sort?, seems someone is dragging this out and back handers to make money, whilst public are held up stuck in cars and on busses, all of which have paid road tax and council tax.
It sounds easy but what I understand it’s a matter of the home owners home and property insurance, island roads ,the Isle of Wight council plus it being in wroxall the parish council ,not something that can just be done in one afternoon, if as I have done cycled down the old shanklin to ventnor railway path ,there are large sections just opposite the land slip that also need investigation
Sounds grand. All be fixed in a couple of years and we can be happily driving over another strip of lumps and bumps thanks to Island Roads. Life sure would be dull without them.
