As the cold weather takes hold of the Isle of Wight, gritters will once again be deployed across the Island’s road network with a full salt run from 17:30 this evening (Wednesday) and again tomorrow morning.
Island Roads are anticipating low temperatures this evening and overnight into Thursday, resulting in the fleet of gritters hitting the roads later on today and again at 05:00 tomorrow morning.
This morning saw the first gritting run of the season when gritters left the Stag Lane depot at 03:00.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a cold weather alert has been issued by IW Met Service with the mercury set to plummet as the week goes on, bringing a risk of ice and snow by the weekend.

the merstone road is always left out or done late, cars & buses go through there early , its lethal !
Lost the car on a sheet of ice turning into the shortcut from Briddlesford to Combley Road this morning. This road never gets gritted.
