Shanklin Voluntary Youth Centre is flying the flag as one of the UK’s very best green spaces having been recognised in Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme.
The centre’s green space and local community initiatives are among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Community Award for 2017 – the mark of a quality park or green space.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Shanklin VYCC Co-leader, Bridget Biddlecombe said:
“We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award again, and that Cllr Churchman is able to present it’.
“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Shanklin Youth Centre and the other projects to such a high standard.
Co-leader Richard Priest added:
“It is a real honour for the Voluntary Centre to receive this prestigious award and it reflects the efforts of volunteers at the Centre for over 20 years”.
International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said:
