Vectis Corps of Drums travelled from the Isle of Wight to Wales at the weekend to perform at the Milford Haven Carnival, delighting crowds with a lively mix of marching music and sing-along favourites.
The band made the journey after receiving a special invitation to take part in the popular Pembrokeshire event, where spectators enthusiastically joined in with a number of the performances.
Representatives from the band said the invitation was a direct result of the growing reach of social media, which has helped showcase the marching band’s unique style to audiences across the UK.
The Isle of Wight group also received a warm welcome from the Milford Haven community, with local residents praising the band’s contribution to the carnival atmosphere.
The nearby Milford Haven Sea and Royal Marine Cadets also supported the visit by providing overnight accommodation at their headquarters, helping the band with the logistics of travelling from the Island.
Ahead of the carnival, members enjoyed an educational visit to a Welsh coal mine, learning about the history of the coal industry and its importance in shaping communities across Wales.
The visit provided younger members with a valuable insight into the region’s industrial heritage, adding an educational element to the weekend.
Vectis Corps of Drums continues to strengthen links with communities across the UK through public performances, community engagement and opportunities for young people.
