Godshill Orchards opened a new self-service shop in honour of the business’ late matriarch Vivienne Medway. The village business have sold their fruit & products for generations at the Orchard entrance and it was decided to refresh the facility. Sadly, Vivienne passed to glory recently and so the family decided to rename the self-service shop – Vivienne’s Larder in her honour. Vivienne was Robert’s dedicated wife for some 42 years and a devoted mother to Simeon & Beth. As a Domestic Science/Food Technology teacher she made a valuable contribution to orchard activities. The new self-service facility in Hollow Lane, Godshill, will offer fresh fruit & vegetables in season together with Island milk 24/7. Graham Biss, High Sherriff of The Isle of Wight, officially opened the new facility by cutting the ribbon on Thursday 25th July, before then enjoying a taste of some fruit.

Where is the shop never heard of it before?
Hi Bob, maybe just ignorance of different fruits and Isle of Wight history?
I am the Grandson of Mr George Wratten who crossed two different apple seeds to finally come up with a new apple variety, which he named after the road that he lived in, in Bembridge, the now famous Howgate Wonder. This apple has held several world records for the largest apple. In fact, the chef Ainsley Harriot holds it in high regard. This wonderful apple is a cross of an eater/cooker. I am wondering if this shop and it’s owners will be stocking a real Isle of Wight apple? Come to that, does any fruit and veg shop on the Island stock it?
