A fundraiser has been set up to help an Isle of Wight man – who has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer – realise his dream of flying in a Spitfire.
79-year-old Brighstone man Peter Horsfall could often be seen working in the lobby at McDonald’s in Newport, greeting the customers as they made their way into the fast-food restaurant. However the aggressive nature of his diagnosis has meant that he hasn’t been able to work for the last few months.
Peter is set to start treatment in a couple of weeks, travelling to Southampton 5 days a week for an initial 2 months period.
Born at the end of World War II, Peter’s dream has been to fly in a Spitfire and his granddaughter Gabby is hoping that his friends, family and members of the public can make his dream come true.
Speaking on the fundraising page, Gabby has said:
“Please donate or even share this with as many people as you can. Anything you can give is appreciated.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the cause, can do so here. So far around £2,000 has been raised.
