Former public conveniences in Wroxall could be transformed into a 1-bedroom home, if County Hall approves recently-submitted plans.
The building at Grove Road went up for auction with Clive Emson in 2023, complete with planning permission for conversion into an office or workshop.
Sue Savage, of Kilndown in Kent, successfully won the former loos, which were guided at £45,000-50,000 and on a 999-year leasehold from 1879.
Now, Mrs Savage has submitted a planning application to the Isle of Wight Council looking to create a single dwelling consisting of an open plan kitchen/living/dining space, a bedroom and a shower room.
Some conversion work has already begun following the approval of planning permission in 2014. The loos were last used in 2011.
If permission is granted for this latest scheme, the gravel area to the front will be replaced with a lawn with a bin store.
A decision on the future of the site is expected to be made by 12th March 2025.
Now that’s what I call taking the
piss.
Lol
How is it that it that in the 1950’s through to the 90’s there were public toilets in abundance throughout the land. Today they are an endangered species, as though humans have developed to such an extent they no longer have need for such facilities.
We are constantly told by the state that we as a population should be getting more exercise and with the population getting fatter it is increasing the strain on the N.H.S.. View such statements with the utter contempt they deserve.
Were those who tax us up to the eyebrows genuinely concerned, they would not have closed and sold off thousands of public conveniences throughout the country. Their actions and disdain for the electorate has ensured that a large percentage of people, particularly the elderly, are no longer able take the exercise they used to. With the public w.c. gone that used to be midway along their walk or cycle ride, now just a distant memory, there is no ‘Relief of Mafeking’ for those bursting at the seams and so they can no longer risk going out on that cold morning jaunt or ride.
So much for increasing the burden on the NHS.
