The former St Helens Railway Station – long converted into a residential property – has gone on the market for the first time in almost 70 years with an asking price of £1.5million. The 7-bedroom property boasts a home office, self-contained annexe and garages. The building was, up until 1953, the only railway station for the village of St Helen’s. It was then purchased by the grandparents of the current owners and has stayed in the family ever since. You can read more about its history in Island Echo’s ‘Isle of Wight Railways’ heritage article here. Rather uniquely, there are 14 acres of private gardens, river and woodland on the fringes of Brading Marshes, with panoramic views over the nature reserve. For those looking to put their own stamp on the place, the sale comes complete with planning permission to once again transform the idyllic home. Plans have been approved by the Isle of Wight Council to take the dated family home to an outstanding, modern, contemporary space with open-plan living areas incredible views, 6 ensuite bedrooms, a swimming pool and pool house. The property is being marketed through Spence Willard, with further details available at https://www.spencewillard.co.uk/listing/st-helens-isle-of-wight-16/.

But will it be affordable….
It’s pretty affordable, for a flood plain
To the masses, a cardboard box will NEVER be affordable because they ensure, no matter what they earn, no matter if their rent and council tax is free, free school meals, uniforms, never have to spend on home repairs, insurance, many not even taxing or insuring their cars, despite getting thousands in tax credits or U/C now, will ALWAYS spend EVERYTHING they are given, then plead ‘poverty’ knowing that suckers will give them ever more.
So unless a fully furnished free large detached home is ‘given’ to them, they will never stop whinging, but will always to breed kids, still go on holiday on exotic locations, to have lavish weddings, to eat out, to dress in expensive clothes, yet do, at best 16 hours work to claim the max.
FACT
Putting ‘FACT’ at the end of a statement does not make it true. All you have in your life is hatred, it must be a sad life for you.
I actually agree with you,.
I was being facetious with my comment as absolutely anything to do with property has to have “affordable” as the buzz word so I thought I would just ask.
It is a lovely property and unfortunately well out of my price range but I won’t whinge to Starmer that it is so unfair and it should really be given to me free as I’m a good bloke.
Anyway, I couldn’t afford to heat it as that nice young lady on the news has stolen my heating allowance and says I should be really happy as I am helping out the country and all the newcomers.
They are probably selling up in order to avoid Labours new property taxes when they get announced in October. Can’t say I blame them.
Gotalaff, I assume you did the ‘wrong’ thing then and saved some of your income, and / or, took out a private pension, both ‘going without’ money, not extra money, and now you as many are, are to be ‘punished’ for doing the right thing.
What the naive on here refuse to understand is, that all these extra bodies arriving from other lands, will need feeding, housing, heating, treating, clothing, educating, and in many cases courts and jailing. ALL very costly.
So HMG can ONLY take from those who ‘have’, or borrow more, which only those who ‘have’ can pay back, so all those claiming poverty, are never ill effected hence don’t care if council tax rises, or rents, or income tax, or any other as they just get more given them.
Only reform voters could turn an article about an old house into a, ‘we hate everyone who’s not white british’ rant
Yet all true what I say hence only insults are forthcoming as although some don’t like what I say they cannot legitimately disagree with it.
Hence Zzzzz, Yawn, boring, change the record, poor grammar, etc.
No matter the truth is all.
I’ll repeat my last comment..the anger and bitterness is bizarre
As is the blinkered “for the greater good” spewed by Starmer… how can so many be taken in.
Oh please shut up you idiot… didn’t you forget to say none of this would happen if we all had voted reform ?..
You have some real issues around ignorance, anger and hatred. I suggest you see a therapist and get the help you need
I would see if you can get a discount for back to back sessions as there is something “bizarre” at both ends of the spectrum.
Thank you for your concern and professional diagnosis.
If only. ‘others’ who have to wait months to be accessed knew, all they had to do was type a few sentences on here they could then ‘claim disability’ money months earlier.
You if going private, could make a fortune, expect they only take and never pay for anything!
A lovely property, but a pity the railway route wasn’t kept open for the public to walk or cycle along all the way into Bembridge without having to go up into St. Helens on the road. Similarly, businesses have been allowed to extend on to the old line along the harbour road, so walkers have to come out on the narrow pavement by the houseboats. An opportunity missed.
One doesn’t wish to have their bushes and trees decorated with small black bags filled with yesterday’s Chum adorning each branch when emerging from the pool.
Far better to drag it to the gutter, especially so for those to idle to pick it up at all as many using the current footpath are seemingly incapable of.
Perhaps, like many of Bembridge residents, they wrongly assume that their pets, as they assume with their own, that it has no odour.
Hopefully an opportunity to get the footpath into St Helens, it doesn’t need to go past the house itself. That rebuild, stripping the station of it’s heritage, is bizarre and ugly.
I remember years ago you could walk alongside the river all the way to Brading and it was FABULOUS and I was so upset when the footpath suddenly closed and it seemed a very greedy and nasty way to carry on; so good riddance to the owners of this place and maybe just maybe the next owners will not be so selfish – but I am an idiotic optimist.
