Christ the King College has been praised for its strong Christian vision, inclusive culture and pastoral support after a recent Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) concluded that the Newport secondary school is enabling both pupils and adults to flourish.
The inspection found that the school is “living up to its foundation as a Church school and is enabling pupils and adults to flourish”, recognising the impact of its Christian ethos on students, staff and the wider school community.
Inspectors said the college’s Christian vision, Via Veritas Vita – The Way, The Truth, The Life – is embedded throughout school life and influences leadership decisions, relationships and the overall culture.
The report also highlighted the school’s values of respect, inclusivity, fairness, challenge and integrity, saying they provide the foundations for success and help create an environment where everyone can thrive.
Among the strengths identified by inspectors were the college’s compassionate pastoral care, broad curriculum and extensive extra-curricular opportunities, which help students develop their talents.
The report also praised the school’s inclusive environment, where diversity is celebrated and vulnerable pupils receive carefully planned support, as well as governors’ commitment to ensuring the school’s vision is reflected in everyday life.
Inspectors recognised the warm relationships across the college, its focus on student and staff wellbeing, innovative mental health support and opportunities for pupils to serve others while developing a strong sense of justice and responsibility.
