A flood alert for the Eastern Yar – between Whitwell and Bembridge – has been issued by the Environment Agency.
Locals are being warned that flooding is possible along the banks of the Eastern Yar and its tributaries. However, due to strike action, there is no specific detail to the warning.
It comes following significant rainfall yesterday (Wednesday) with 35-40mm recorded in areas across the Isle of Wight. The highest amount of rainfall was 40.39mm in Gunville, Newport.
Residents should monitor local water levels and weather conditions and avoid using low-lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.

The Environmental agency had been on strike for ages, its not good enough, stop been greedy and get back to doing the job.
Did you not see that the report was referring to a warning issued by the Environment Agency?
You can’t control nature, it’s simply doing it’s thing….
But you CAN warn people about it “doing it’s thing” so that people can prepare and avoid.
And what should they do when preparing? Stop going to work and damage the economy a little more?….Or should they stay in bed and pray? Man up and stop being a snowflake, it’s just weather changing in autumn….
Oh, I don’t know. Move livestock from at-risk areas, move vehicles in at risk areas to higher ground, that sort of thing.
All pretty obvious, really.
Well, obvious unless you are a smeghead with a brain the size of a peanut, I guess.
As well as warning locals about flooding there should be a warning about sewage in the sea – Sandown overflow at Wightcliff bay has been discharging for 26 hours!
Hopefully it will drift over to France and stop the boat army invading us….Then maybe house our brave veterans that are left on the streets, the Stockholm would be a nice place for our heroes given medical care, heating, a warm bed, and good food……I wonder what far left marron disagree with me????…
